My name is Cyrus Lee, and I am a third-year medical student at UERM. I am honored to be selected to represent the Philippines at the 2026 International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA) General Assembly in Copenhagen, Denmark. This is one of the world’s oldest and largest student-run organizations. It is a network of more than 1.5 million medical students from 133 National Member Organizations in 123 countries around the globe. While this opportunity is a great privilege, it also comes with significant financial challenges. In hopes of making this opportunity possible, I reached out to the UERMMMC Alumni Foundation USA (AFUSA) last December 2025. I submitted all the required documents through the College of Medicine Dean’s Office, knowing that my registration was time-sensitive. I was sincerely hoping for a prompt response. To my great relief and gratitude, UERM AFUSA approved my request in a timely manner, allowing me to proceed with confidence. This experience affirmed what many of us already know—that UERM AFUSA truly cares for the UERM medical studentry. Beyond individual support, UERM AFUSA continues to fund scholarships, educational activities, and faculty development, believing that well-trained faculty ultimately benefit students the most. “My name is Erianne Macaraeg, a second year medical student at UERM and I am honored to be the very first recipient of the Anna Lisa Raymundo Endowment Merit Award. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Doctors Rene and Susan Raymundo of the Medical Class of 1967 and to the UERM Alumni Foundation USA (AFUSA) for your generosity and unwavering support of medical students like me.This endowment was established in loving memory of Doctors Rene and Susan's brilliant daughter, Ms. Anna Lisa Raymundo, with the purpose of helping medical students pursue excellence while upholding the highest academic standards. Knowing the meaning behind this award makes it all the more special and deeply inspiring. Anna Lisa excelled academically at Harvard University in the USA. At the time I received this award, my family was facing significant financial challenges following my father’s resignation from his job. Medical school is already demanding, and this situation made the journey even more difficult. The support I received came at a moment when it made a tremendous difference—it allowed me to focus fully on my studies and give my very best. Even before receiving this award, I was already grateful to be a student of UERM, a school that not only values academic excellence but also fosters a strong sense of community. The encouragement from faculty, the support among students, and the active involvement of alumni make the medical school journey both reassuring and meaningful. Through this award, I truly felt that sense of community when I needed it most. I have also been inspired by the continued efforts of UERM AFUSA, from recognizing outstanding students to supporting opportunities for UERM learners to participate in international conferences. Your commitment to uplifting future physicians reflects the power of generosity and shared purpose.
